Outputmessage - IG Take Over
Hi there! My name is Bernard, but you might know me as #Outputmessage. I’m also the founder of Black Techno Matters. This week I’m going to take us on a musical journey starting in chains and ending in liberation. Most of the tracks were played during our Say It Loud, Say It Proud: Black Lives Matter March to the White House last year in June. Yes, this will be a week of protest music. I’ll also give you some of the backstory of why these tracks were chosen for marching and protesting. I love Techno because it’s a powerful manifestation of strength in the face of oppression. I encourage you to play these tracks LOUD this summer.
Oh yeah, and this photo was taken by the incredibly talented @michaelamccoyphotography. He captured this moment where I refused to let a full line of riot police kill my joy. George Floyd was killed the week my husband and I were supposed to get married. It already hurt to have to postpone the wedding because of coronavirus, but then to go and suffocate my brother in the street in broad daylight for 9 damn minutes. Oh hell no! So instead of honeymooning, we went out protesting. And they had all sorts of cops out: correctional officers, MPD, homeland security, capitol police, even the TSA! Well, I sashayed down that whole line and looked each of them in the eye. I laughed. I smiled. I flirted. And oh yeah, I threw some flower petals their way. What are all those guns going to do against this Black joy?
And with that, let’s go!
