BLACK TECHNO MATTERS is kicking off 2024 with its second compilation, F_X_M_X_L_Y v2. While there will be a 2 hour long Bandcamp/streamable version of the compilation featuring 20 tracks, the real version of the release is a limited edition 64GB BLACK TECHNO MATTERS F_X_M_X_L_Y USB with 130 songs from 16 artists clocking in at over 17 hours of music. That’s not including 2 DJ mixes and 3 sample packs. It will also include an archive of flyers and video footage from BLACK TECHNO MATTERS events, plus other surprises. So you’ll just have to buy the USB to find out what they are.

We see the F_X_M_X_L_Y v2 USB as a kind of a digital time capsule of what these black artists are creating right now in 2023 and a peek into what’s on the horizon of techno in 2024 and beyond. Each artist was given the freedom to choose what to put in their USB folder and the content ranges in scope from a single track, like the invigorating live techno of “Seek The Rhythm” from LA based modular master Trovarsi, to a massive genre-defining collection of l00ps, p0rtals and w0rmh0les from BLACK TECHNO MATTERS founder B_X_R_N_X_R_D. In between, there are gems like a dance floor ready EP by Baltimore’s Queen of the Underground, Kotic Couture, and a huge archive of unreleased tracks and b-sides from the prolific Baltimore producer S.DOT. BLACK TECHNO MATTERS in-house mastering engineer Blvksite not only applied their technical prowess to master this epic collection of music, but also contributed a few tracks of their own, updating their playful and sinister sound in a beautifully mysterious direction. F_X_M_X_L_Y v2 also introduces the world to emerging artists like the experimental musings of Richmond’s TP2 and the majestic spacey electro of DC’s MerlinBerlin (who won our Liber8 Remix contest in June 2023).

This groundbreaking USB is an instant level up for any DJ’s collection and, of course, can be immediately used for their next gig. There will only be 100 copies available, so head on over to our Bandcamp page to get your copy before they run out!

////// A message from the founder of BLACK TECHNO MATTERS:

"If you saw a $100 bill on the ground in an alleyway, would you pick it up? What about a $50 bill? What if you saw a Black F_X_M_X_L_Y? Would you give it a chance to see what treasures it might store?

For hundreds of years, the system of white supremacy has not seen the value of the Black family unit. In fact, it has actively tried to dismantle and burn down black family trees in an attempt to erase the record of our histories, our culture, and our innovations from the face of the earth. But our roots still contain our ancestral energies, and grow and manifest themselves throughout the world. Not the least of which is through music. Techno, House, Jazz, Rock, and the list goes on. Black musical innovation has changed the world.

When we say that the mission of BLACK TECHNO MATTERS is to reclaim techno, we don't mean just simply to proclaim that "Techno is Black". We also must maintain this knowledge and protect it as if it were priceless. We can empower our communities by archiving our creations, innovations, stories, and legends so that future generations of black people and artists can see and hear themselves in techno music.

We see the 19 hours of music on the F_X_M_X_L_Y v2 USB as a kind of a digital time capsule of what the Black Techno Matters family is creating right now in 2023 and a peek into what’s on the horizon of techno in 2024 and beyond.

Will you pick one up?"
